KMA Leads Panel at Black Freedom Movements: Then and Now Symposium

KMA, with our colleagues from the African American Museum of Bucks County (AAMBC) and Cloud Gehshan Design, led a roundtable discussion at Black Freedom Movements: Then and Now, a two-day symposium sponsored by Mother Bethel AME Church and The Colored Conventions Movement. Our theme, “How We Found the Voice to Speak with Our Community: Guideposts on Our Journey of Reinvention,” explored AAMBC’s journey toward establishing a permanent home for the organization.

The presentation opened with AAMBC’s Pastor Lugenure Jones (known as Pastor Jean) and historian Patricia Mervine describing the museum’s origins, history, and vision for a permanent home. The panel, which included Ian Goldberg of Cloud Gehshan, then responded to questions from KMA Principal Troy C. Leonard that focused on three key AAMBC objectives: Find the Right Team, Define the Message, and Expand the Coalition.

The “Guideposts Along the Way” portion of the presentation highlighted considerations that helped establish a clear direction for achieving AAMBC’s goals while offering guidance that other organizations could adapt to their own unique circumstances.

An engaging Q&A followed, with several meaningful exchanges between audience members and panelists. Reverend Carolyn Cavaness closed the presentation by extending Mother Bethel’s gratitude to KMA, AAMBC, Cloud Gehshan, and our colleagues at Night Kitchen Interactive for an inspiring discussion of what organizations can achieve when a clear vision is supported by collaboration and community.
