Moving Up: Kathy Babcock

Moving Up: Kathy Babcock

We are thrilled to announce the promotion of Kathy Babcock from Associate to Principal. Kathy has been with Kelly Maiello for 18 years, during which time she has become invaluable member of the team, primarily focusing on the firm’s historic preservation projects. Kathy’s career spans over 35 years, and we are immensely grateful to have her here at Kelly Maiello as she continues to take on new challenges and excel in her field. Please join us in congratulating Kathy on her promotion.

People are at the root of our profession. And as an architect whose work has largely centered on historic buildings, it’s the personal relationships she develops with clients and contractors, and the discovery of those who helped form Philadelphia’s historic built environment that energize Kathy. Whether poring over 100-year-old linen drawings or chasing down an obscure historical detail, the people and their stories that Kathy encounters along the way engage her curiosity.

Kathy considers herself fortunate to have worked on some of Philadelphia’s premier historic buildings during her 20+ years at KMA, from the Philadelphia Museum of Art at one end of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway to City Hall at the other. But it’s her work at the Free Library of Philadelphia on Logan Circle that brings her a deepest sense of fulfillment. Kathy has worked on the Beaux Arts building as both project architect and project manager over the course of 12 years.

Born in Puerto Rico into a large family, Kathy has been imbued with a love and appreciation for engaging conversation and a respect for diverse opinions. Over a 33-year career that began with interior design, Kathy found herself increasingly drawn to the buildings themselves, so she earned a Bachelor of Architecture from Drexel University. In her free time, she satisfies her creative muses through stained glass and oil painting, and her impulse to help others by serving on the board of a local low income housing organization.
